Compatibility

Compatibility depends on the game, its graphics settings and your platform. Ready means Beamline is set up; effects may still be unsupported or display incorrectly.

Windows, Linux, and SteamOS

On Windows, Beamline supports Direct3D, OpenGL, and Vulkan integrations.

On Linux and SteamOS, the Beamline app runs through Proton and needs its Linux components. Games may run natively or through Proton. Compatibility can differ between those paths and between Proton versions.

Native Linux graphics support includes Vulkan and OpenGL through GLX; OpenGL through EGL is not supported. Proton games can use supported Direct3D/OpenGL integrations or Vulkan translation. Keep Steam's normal launch choices, including its Proton selection. Beamline follows the graphics path the game actually uses.

HDR support is limited to Beamline's supported HDR10 and scRGB formats on Direct3D 11/12 and Vulkan.

Anti-cheat and online games

Beamline does not detect anti-cheat or verify compatibility with it. Only use it where the game's rules allow graphics modifications. Check the developer's guidance first, especially for online games with anti-cheat. When in doubt, do not set up that game.

Graphics mods and other overlays

Other graphics mods and overlays may conflict with Beamline, including tools that need the same files in a game's folder.

If Replace Existing Files? appears, review the list. Replace and Continue replaces those files and may stop another tool from working. Tools can also conflict at runtime even when their files coexist.

If setup or effects do not work

If setup is refused, read the message. Beamline may not support the game's graphics or may be unable to prepare its files safely. Do not force it by renaming files, copying Beamline files into the game yourself, or bypassing its checks.

For an existing setup, Troubleshooting & support covers common symptoms and local Compatibility Reports.
